Kidnapper Cliffs Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Nov-2011
Mendoza clone fruit from ‘Zone 7' with a small portion of clone 15 from ‘Zone 8', fully barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak with lees stirring, but no MLF. Brilliant, pale straw-yellow colour, quite pale on edge. This has a very tight, firm bouquet of white stonefruits, nuts and subtle earth and mineral elements, lending good interest. Dry and full-bodied, this has concentration, depth and power to the mouthfeel, with flavours of yellow stonefruits, toasted nuts and a subtle oxidative complexity that build on the palate. Savoury earth and nutty elements combine with a little alcoholic warmth that result in richness. The acidity is discreet, but provides good liveliness and drive. A wine that reins-in power with elegance, showing complexing nutty flavours. Match with poultry and pork over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0+/20 Nov 2011 RRP $45.00
