Kidnapper Cliffs Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Nov-2011
Fruit from ‘Zone 2', given a cold soak and fermented with whole berries to 14.0% alc., maceration with foot treading, the wine aged in 25% new 300 L oak barrels. Near black-red colour with purple hues, impenetrable. This has a concentrated and dense bouquet of dark red berries and black plums, along with dark herb notes. Soft aromas of cracked pepper and violet perfumes emerge, along with bacony oak. This seems brooding. Medium-full bodied, this is still tightly bound, The flavours are concentrated and packed, attractively lifted black berry fruits, Asian spices, liquorice along with oak char and dark florals show. The mouthfeel is very fine and the tannins supple and velvety. Wonderfully balanced and quite harmonious, this has the depth and richness that will see it develop over the next 7-10 years. Match with rich lamb, and beef dishes and hard cheeses. 18.5+/20 Nov 2011 RRP $65.00
