Kumeu River ‘Hunting Hill’ Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 31-Aug-2011
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with a pale edge, the nose is beautifully delicate with aromas of white flowers, stonefruits and minerals, along with nutty, chalky notes. Dry and very finely poised, this has subtle, near ethereal white stonefruit, floral and nutty fruit flavours underlined by racy, slippery acidity resulting in nervosity and tension. The wine is very tightly bound, and minerally nuances emerge as the feature, carrying through to a very long finish. Fruit from the 3.3 ha ‘Hunting Hill' site overlooking ‘Maté's' vineyard, originally planted in 1982, but replanted with Clone 15 in 2000. 100% barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 25% new French oak with 100% MLF. A minerally, steely wine to serve with shellfish over the next 5-6 years. 18.5/20 Aug 2011 RRP $48.99
