Man O’ War ‘Valhalla’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-Nov-2012
Light golden yellow colour, paler on rim. This has a very full, open and broad nose but well-concentrated with a complex combination of ripe citrus and tropical fruit aromas and waves of spicy oak, flinty lees work and reductive nuances. Full-bodied, rich and powerful flavours form a dense, luscious and near unctuous, mouthfilling palate. Ripe citrus and melon fruit with tropical elements are well-integrated with spicy, nutty, toasty oak. Flinty nuances add another layer of interest. There is excellent underlying acidity which enhances the liveliness of the wine leading to a very long, full-flavoured finish. This is a full-bodied, rich Chardonnay with waves of complexity that will develop over the next 4-5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented on full solids to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in 20% new 500 L puncheons, with no MLF or batonnage. 19.5-/20 Oct 2012 RRP $45.00
