Mills Reef ‘Elspeth’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Nov-2012
Brilliant, full, light golden-hued yellow colour. The nose is full and evenly expressed, very harmonious with very well-integrated aromas of ripe, savoury citrus fruits, hints of mealy and nutty elements and cream, the fruit, barrel-ferment and winemaker inputs all seamlessly melded. Medium-full bodied, succulently rich, ripe flavours of citrus fruits, tropical fruits, nuts and biscuit mealy notes are harmoniously interwoven, and fill the mouth with a smooth, creamy flow. This has concentration and depth, with a fine, subtle, grainy textural line at the core. The acidity is low, adding to the roundness and creaminess. There is good power and line which leads to a soft, but very sustained finish with oxidative and nutty complexities. This is a soft, rich and creamy Chardonnay with ripe fruit flavours and nutty interest. 80% Mere Road fruit with 20% from Te Awanga, hand-picked, WBP and fully-barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 76% new French oak with 35% undergoing MLF. 18.5/20 Nov 2012 RRP $33.00
