Monowai Crownthorpe Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Mar-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on edge, youthful in appearance. The nose is softly concentrated with deep aromas of dark red plums entwined with herbs, green olives, blackcurrants and black ink, along with layers of stalk and stemmy cool-spectrum elements. Medium-bodied, the fruit expression is restrained, building in depth to show plum, currant and herbal flavours. Cool notes of stalks and stems are harmoniously melded with the fruit. This has a soft-textured mouthfeel with supple, modestly extracted tannins and soft acidity. The palate has weight, presence and good vinosity, with a positive core carrying the wine to a moderately long finish. This is a soft-textured Merlot with cool-spectrum herb and stalky flavours entwined with plum and curranty fruit, Match with herb-marinated beef and lamb dishes over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new, predominantly French oak. 16.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $20.00
