Ngatarawa ‘Proprietors Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Noble Riesling 2014

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-May-2015
Riesling fruit from the 1.8 ha ‘Cellar Door’ vineyard, dedicated to sweet wine production, harvested for botrytis infection over two picks, one at 42° Brix and the other at 44° Brix, fermented to 10.0% alc. and 204 g/L RS, TA 5.7 g/L and pH 3.55. Bright golden-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on rim. The nose is full and soft with deeply concentrated aromas of citrus and tropical fruits infused with marmalade, crystallised fruits, musk and talc botrytis, the aromatics lifted by piquant exotic florals. Very sweet and lusciously decadent, this has a concentrated core of ripe citrus fruits along exotic florals and musk, unfolding wild honey and marmalade flavours and some lifted esters. The acidity is gentle and the sweetness and opulent flavours are balanced by a fine thread of phenolics that moderate the unctuous mouthfeel. The palate carries to a soft, densely, long, lingering finish of florals, honey and musk. This is a soft, rich and densely concentrated botrytised, lusciously sweet Riesling with florals, honey and musk flavours. Match with fruit and baked desserts, and blue cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. (375 ml) 18.5-/20 May 2015 RRP $39.00
