NTN ‘Jubilee Reserve’ Gisborne Pinotage 2007

Pinotage from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 03-Feb-2016
Dark, deep, black-hued red with garnet and brick hues on the rim. This has a very full and softly voluminous bouquet of lifted, savoury dark red and black berried fruit with plum aromas melded with spicy and cedary oak entwined with complexing secondary, savoury herb and mellow game notes. The nose grows in richness, interest and breadth with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is densely packed with a concentrated heart of savoury dark red and black berried fruit, dark plums, spices, liquorice and savoury game flavours. The fruit has varietal volatile-like lift and is layered with sweet, cedary oak. The fruit richness is supported by significant fine-grained tannin structure, and soft acidity enhances the richness and rounded mouthfeel. The wine carries to a long finish of plums, liquorice and spicy oak. This is a rich, structured and savoury Pinotage with spice, game and oak flavours showing secondary complexities. It is traditional and a ‘Blast from the Past’, but will still develop over the next 6-8+ years. Serve with slow cooked game meat dishes. 100% Pinotage from a Gisborne vineyard, destemmed and cold macerated, then indigenous yeast initiated with Burgundian yeast added, the fermentation resulting in 14.0% alc. The wine was aged 24 months in 60% new French and 40% American oak barriques. 930 bottles made. 19.0/20 Feb 2016 RRP $69.99
