One Off Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Mar-2016
Clone 15 and 95 fruit from Maraekakaho, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with full solids to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months on lees in Hungarian oak barriques with full MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is firm and concentrated with ripe citrus and stonefruit aromas melded with bold waves of gunflint, nuts, smoke and toasty oak, unfolding subtle lemon-curd and caramel MLF elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft, lush and deeply rich flavours of citrus and stonefruits entwined with complexing gunflint, nutty and toasty oak layers, with harmoniously interwoven notes of lemon-curd and butterscotch. This has a soft-textured, plush and well-packed mouthfeel with a fine phenolic line and restrained background acidity carrying the flavours to a long, lingering finish with and acid twist. This is a soft, full and rich stonefruited and flinty Chardonnay with bold nutty and toasty oak and integrated MLF notes. Match with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4 years. 18.5/20 Mar 2016 RRP $29.99
