Saint Clair ‘Premium’ Hawke’s Bay Malbec 2013

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-May-2014
Very full, saturated, purple-hued black-red colour. The nose is full and gently voluminous with primary aromas of ripe black and blue berry fruits and dark plums, revealing lifted boysenberry, liquorice and spice notes. Medium-bodied, concentrated, bright and ripe, youthful flavours of blackberries, boysenberries and black plums form a moderately deep and concentrated core. The fruit is enlivened by fresh acidity adding to the succulence, and provides good drive. Fine-grained tannins underline the fruit and the palate follows a firm line to a sustained finish with spicy plum notes. This is an elegant, bright, fruit-focussed Malbec with a fine tannin line and lively acid drive. Match with pasta, poultry, pork and barbecued food over the next 4 years. Fruit from a single vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine given aged in seasoned oak. 17.5-/20 May 2014 RRP $24.99
