Spade Oak ‘Voysey’ Gisborne Syrah 2017

Syrah from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 29-Mar-2018
Even ruby-red colour with some depth and slight purple hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is up-front and openly accessible with vibrant aromas showing dark cherry and raspberry fruit intermixed with blackberries, white and black pepper, and whole berry fermentation floral and confectionary nuances. This is fragrant and pretty in expression. Light-medium bodied, the palate has sweet and fragrant fruit flavours of dark-red cherries and raspberries, along with red florals, subtle notes of white pepper and whole berry confectionary elements. The fruitiness is underlined by light, but definite, fine, grainy tannin extraction lending grip to the mouthfeel, the acidity balanced and integrated. The sweet fruit carries with good drive and line to a lingering finish. This is an up-front, fragrant and accessible Syrah with berry, raspberry, floral and confectionary flavours on a light, grainy palate. Serve with antipasto, tapas, pasta and barbecued fare over the next 3+ years. A blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.2% alc., with 90% of the wine aged 6 months in French oak with 30% new equivalence. 16.5+/20 Mar 2018 RRP $19.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
