Stone Bridge ‘40fied’ Gisborne Rare Tawny

Fortified Port Style from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 27-Mar-2014
Made from 100% Merlot fruit from the 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages, fortified to 18.5% alc., and 95 g/L RS, the wine aged 3 years in European oak barrels. Full, deep, black-hued garnet-red colour, with a little tawny hue on edge. This has a powerful and intensely packed bouquet of ripe red and brown fruits along with raisin and plum notes, and complexing seasoned wood and suggestions of rancio nuttiness. Sweet to taste, rich and luscious flavours of raisined plum fruit are harmoniously entwined with spices, liquorice, and nutty, rancio wood notes. The mouthfeel is smooth and integrated and flows with ease, following a gentle core with very fine extract. The acidity is low and spirit integral with the flavours that are carried to a very long, lingering nutty finish. Powerful on bouquet, this is an extremely harmonious port-style wine with plum and raisin flavours and complexing nutty notes. More a cross between Late Bottled Vintage and Tawny in style. Serve with chocolate, rich steamed desserts and blue cheeses over the next 6-8 years, 18.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $38.00
