Waitapu Estate ‘Reef View’ Pinotage 2012

Pinotage from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Jun-2014
100% Pinotage fermented to 12.0% alc., the wine aged in oak for 24 months. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly full and gentle with restrained aromas of dark red berry fruit harmoniously entwined with dried herbal nuances and subtle earthy elements, and light spicy oak. Medium-bodied, soft flavours of red fruits and plums show a typical varietal lifted edge. Spicy oak nuances are present. The fruit is up-front with some sweetness, and is enhanced by elevated acidity. The mouthfeel is rounded with light tannin extraction which carries through to a dry finish with liquorice notes. This is an up-front and gently sweet Pinotage with noticeable acidity. Match with pasta, pizza, poultry and pork over the next 3+ years. 16.0/20 May 2014 RRP $28.95
